Sundsvall City Hostel

The staff were very unfriendly and disrespectful. They wouldn’t give me a twin room for two people at the official rate and kept insisting it was a single room. During the discussion, the rate on the computer went up a second time, and I was told there were better things to do than serve me. I can’t recommend this hotel to anyone.

The highlight of my stay was the gentleman I think was called 'seeus', please forgive the spelling. He understood my situation, found me a bigger room, arranged a toddler bed, and put a very special early breakfast in the fridge. He really rescued my trip, and I might stay again if I received that kind of service. The location is great, right in central Sundsvall, and there’s a kitchen with fridge space. There’s no included parking, though there is space outside. The room was unexpectedly tiny, only a little bigger than the toilet, so check the stated 10sqmt before booking and consider what the price gets you. I was delayed by snow thunder while traveling a long way, and reception closes at 21.00. When I asked for a bigger room as they were about to close for the day, the lady seemed a little angry and simply said they were fully booked. I was also leaving early, before breakfast started at 8am, and her response to my request for something earlier was just sorry. At the end, I mentioned that I always review hotels after taking pictures. The reception lady loudly said we weren’t allowed to photograph the hotel. That felt a little weird, but I took the liberty of taking a picture with Hero, who had saved my trip from being ruined.

The rooms are low quality with thin walls, and breakfast is very basic. There isn’t actually any parking. It’s fine if saving money is your main aim, but otherwise it’s a poor choice.

I never stayed here, but they still plan to charge my card the full amount. I booked by mistake because I couldn’t make it during their check-in hours, then called two minutes later to cancel. The hotel refused and said Booking.com had to cancel it. Booking.com told me they couldn’t do anything. The hotel also told them I had never called, even though I called twice and have the logs to prove it. It feels like they only care about the money and offer no service at all!
