The room was clean and comfortable, and the quiet made it easy to sleep well. Staff were friendly, helpful, and welcoming, so I felt at home. I borrowed a bathrobe for a morning swim in the lake, though I’d bring flip-flops for that. I skipped lunch, but breakfast was good, and they took my allergies and intolerances into account.

The next morning, even though we were checking out, Malin offered to let us return for a shower before our long drive back to the city. That unexpected kindness was really helpful. We’d come up from Stockholm for one night, with an activity planned nearby the following day. Malin welcomed us warmly and was lovely with our four-year-old, who had never seen snow. Before dark, she suggested we visit the frozen lake. The snowy lake in the beautiful hour before sunset felt magical. Our room was warm and lovely, and breakfast was delicious in a gorgeous setting.

The hosts made us feel right at home, and the hotel was cozy and comfortable. We’re a family of five, and every one of us enjoyed our winter wonderland at Trollnäs. Ice fishing, snow scootering, and sauna time followed by an ice swim made it an experience we won’t forget. It’s a beautiful part of the world. We’ll be back!

I still can’t forget this, even though it happened a few years ago, and I want to warn others. There were pieces of porcelain in the food, and I actually felt them with my teeth. I understand a dish used for baking might break, but serving food with shards in it is unacceptable. Someone could have been hurt, and it also left me wondering whether the food had been picked up from the floor. The old rooms and the lack of restaurants or shops nearby were probably understandable, and the quiet was fine. This was the worst hotel I’ve visited.

The surrounding nature is lovely, especially if you get good weather. Rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. There’s a microwave and teapot, with tea and coffee provided. Breakfast isn’t very imaginative, but it’ll keep you going until lunch.
