Kalkbrottets Vandrarhem - Hostel

The host was a helpful, service-minded man who responded whenever we needed him. The hostel is outside Slite center, right next to the limestone quarry. Breakfast was served at Slite bath hotel. Our room got extremely hot because we couldn’t open the window, but the host said he would fix it.

There was nobody at the hostel when I arrived, just a sign with a phone number. With my limited English and Swedish, managing to communicate felt like a miracle. The place is about a kilometer from the city center, and you should know there’s an extra charge for bed linen. A good breakfast is included, served at a hotel in the city center.

The room itself was fine after we fixed the door, which barely closed. We had tools in the car and sorted it out ourselves. But the garbage disposal was disgusting, with flies everywhere. You’ve had complaints about it before, yet nothing seems to have been done, and it isn’t emptied daily as you say. The ladies’ shower was barely usable too, with jets that felt like tiny nails and poor cleaning. We probably won’t come back. And we didn’t see any garden, just wild grass and bushes.

The owner was very nice, and there are two lovely TV rooms, plus a large, bright and quiet kitchen with seating for 18. The Blue Lagoon is close by and great for a swim. Some of the beds are single beds and very good, but the bunk beds are awful and not suitable for adults. Thanks for the nights at the hostel 🌞.
