The setting is beautiful, but the rooms feel dated, like they haven’t been updated since the 1970s. We weren’t given information about local walking trails, even though that was supposed to be available.

We had a lovely week parked with our van in the meadow beside the lake. It’s a great spot, and the owners are friendly. Despite being there in peak season, it stayed very quiet.

ANTIQUE MUSEUM GAMMELBYN The cabin was a shock. It felt like stepping into the 1970s: worn, randomly furnished, and so dim that turning on the light barely seemed to help. There wasn’t even a light in the kitchen. When we tried to put our food in the old refrigerator, its door came off because the top hinge was missing. The bathroom was just as bad. The yellowed shower head looked disgusting, as if it had come from the trash. The water heater was mounted over the toilet, so you had to sit hunched over. The water supply failed several times during our stay, and the boiler ran at full blast. Scalding water, supposedly 100°C, came out of the tap. Be careful: when you turn on the cold side, the pipes heat each other, so hot water may come out at first. I burned myself. The cabin still had 1960s fuses, and the heating system seemed to date from the 1980s, smell included. As for meals, the cooks had already left, and cooking had been taken over by people who called themselves culinary experts after backpacking trips. It was canned food and ready-made sauces. Some food sat outside by the bicycles for days. We also had to use our own car for day trips. At a third of the price, we might have expected something different. These dilapidated huts and the food come close to legal extortion. Outrageous, and absolutely not recommended!
