Hotel Mälarporten

The receptionist was friendly, and the bed was comfortable. The room was clean and quiet, though the place is a bit run down. Breakfast was okay, nothing special, and there was some black mold in the shower. I laughed at the bottle opener mounted on the toilet wall. So you can bring your beer and drink while sitting there! Maybe it makes sense since most guests seemed to be men. 😆

I always stay here when I'm working at Bruks Surahammar, about 25 minutes away. The rooms are basic but reliably clean and tidy, and breakfast has an excellent selection. It's convenient for getting onto the highway. Town is a ten-minute walk, though it can feel longer in winter.

I've stayed here for about six months in total while working in Västerås, and there's not much to complain about. The staff were excellent and very accommodating. The rooms were small, but clean.

The beds were reasonably comfortable for a cheap hotel, and the price was the only real upside, though I'm not sure it was worth it. The place is so worn down it feels like old student dorms converted into a hotel and badly needs a major overhaul. The toilet had a smell of curry for no explainable reason, and breakfast was below average.
