Best Western Solhem Hotel

At Best Western Solhem Hotel, the staff made us feel at home. They were warm and attentive, and even prepared special gluten-free waffles for my husband, which was such a thoughtful gesture. We appreciated the free late checkout too, since it let us leave at a more relaxed pace. The hotel was very clean and well cared for, and some rooms have been newly renovated and are quite comfortable. A couple of things to know: the evenings can get warm without AC or ventilation, and getting uphill with a stroller may be challenging. Still, the welcoming atmosphere and service made for a wonderful stay. Highly recommend.

The room floor had dust and dirt left from previous guests, which is why I didn’t give the hotel five stars. I’m sure it was a one-off, since the room and facilities otherwise seemed very clean and well maintained. The breakfast was fresh with a good range of choices, and even the lobby bathrooms were clean. The lobby itself felt welcoming, and the staff were friendly. A very pleasant place to stay in Visby.

We stayed in room 224 for three days, and I was glad the visit was short. It was very small, with the bathroom directly opposite the bed, so I had to move aside whenever my husband came out and I was near the bed. There was no proper wardrobe, just a wall recess presented as one, with two shelves too high for someone 1.60 tall to reach. A table in that space seemed pointless. A chest of drawers could have been more useful, with room for a kettle and accessible shelves, but half my things stayed in the suitcase. The room was in a separate building that seemed to have been residential before the hotel bought it. It also got extremely stuffy and hot in the evenings because it faced west and caught the sun after lunch. We had to open the windows and doors to get a draft, which was uncomfortable in the evenings because insects came in. The hotel charged 4500 SEK, or 450 euros, for three nights in what felt like a tiny closet without a chest of drawers. Shame on the hotel.

The room was fine, and the hotel was pleasant and centrally located. Breakfast was good, and the administration went smoothly.
