Värdshuset Lindgården

I was charged again for something I'd already paid for in advance, right at the start. My room was first assigned in an annex beside a road and a construction site, then I was moved to one two rooms back from the road. The room itself was good, but the outdoor bar was only 8 meters from the door and overlooked the bathroom. Service was poor, and the stay didn't feel worth the money. The breakfast room was up the alley from the annex. We won't be back.

The garden was beautiful and atmospheric, and we enjoyed the Scandinavian evening and the last sunlight there. Still, we came away ambivalent about our evening at Lindgården, the restaurant, not the hotel. Prices were somewhat higher than at other Visby restaurants. The service was warm but unsatisfactory. With two-hour sittings, you'd expect more attention, but waits were long, and we still had half-full cognac glasses when the waitress said it was time to pay and leave. The food was pleasant but uninspired: I asked for rare meat and got it medium. The flavors were a bit dull, with nothing to complain about but little to praise. We had a pleasant evening, but won't return. Visby has plenty of restaurants with better service and food.

The portions were good, and the food tasted exquisite. This place takes a more traditional approach to cooking than I've seen elsewhere on the island. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys fine cuisine.

The setting had a lovely atmosphere, but the meal and service fell short for the prices. We got there around 6 PM, and the staff already seemed tired and uninterested. Nobody asked how the very expensive steak should be cooked. One meat dish came undercooked, another was overcooked, and the fries were soggy with broken aioli. Those are basic mistakes for a place in this price range. When our one-year-old was served medium-rare steak and we asked for it to be cooked more, the staff argued with us. This was a real letdown and not one of the better places we visited during our time on Gotland.
