The service was great. They replied quickly to all our questions and can help get luggage up to the cottage for a small fee, leaving you free to hike or take the chair lift. They can also help arrange drinking water, since the tap water is rainwater and isn’t drinkable. It’s a well-kept, lovely traditional cottage with a priceless mountain view. There are three bedrooms and eight beds for eight people, plus a fully equipped kitchen, toilet, and shower room.

The location is great, but the hut could use better upkeep. The shower barely drains, and most of the tools, like the axe, rake, and saw, are loose or unusable. The biggest letdown was the strong, unpleasant smell of heating oil around 7 a.m., just as you want to enjoy the morning sun over pristine Velika Planina. I suspect it comes from the neighboring expensive mountain huts, where guests are heating their jacuzzis.
