The owner greeted our whole group with a lovely homemade welcome drink, which we really appreciated. He was helpful whenever we needed something, but also discreet, so we could enjoy our privacy. The apartments were tastefully decorated, well furnished, and equipped for a comfortable short stay. They work especially well for smaller groups wanting a stylish, practical place. We had a wonderful time in Kamnik and would recommend staying here.

The owners were welcoming, and the shared kitchen is wonderful. We didn't try breakfast, though you can use the kitchen yourself. Our double room had separate single beds, was small but clean, and sat upstairs via a narrow staircase. The bathroom was roomy and comfortable. Check-in was easy, and there's free outdoor parking in front. The entrance and parking are tucked around the building's corner from the spot shown on Google Maps, so contact the owner ahead of time to arrange your arrival and they can meet you. Hiša Stare Mame is a good base for a few days visiting Lubjana, Kamnik Town, and Velika Planina. The Velika Planina cable car entrance is about 15 minutes away by car, and Kamnik Mesto has a train to Lubjana.

Breakfast was a treat, served in the cellar of the original farmhouse, where each guest gets a sewing-machine table. The new building has a farmhouse feel without being old or dusty, and has modern everything, plus a hot tub you can book by the hour. I wish more places did that. It was a fun stay, and reasonably priced.

We stayed one night in March. The owners built nearly the whole hotel themselves, and much of the work is well done, though some DIY details are obvious. Our bathroom door, for instance, hit the sink before it could open all the way. Breakfast was self-service and very basic.

The whirlpool is well worth recommending. Our room was beautifully furnished, and the owner and staff were really nice. He also gave us some great suggestions for restaurants and things to do nearby. The price for what you get is stunning.
