Fluxus Hostel

I was unsure at first because of the negative reviews mentioning bed bugs, so I asked to inspect my bed before checking in. The staff welcomed me and reassured me about the hostel’s hygiene and safety. It seems like that was an issue in the past. The location is right in the center, and there’s a selection of complimentary teas and coffees for guests. I had a fantastic stay and hope to return to Ljubljana.

They kept my luggage for free, and getting in with the PIN was straightforward, so I didn’t need to find anyone at reception, which is open from 10 am to 1 pm. The hostel was very clean, and I never had to wait for the shower even though there’s only one for 14 people. I also liked that the tea was free.

The location was the only good thing here. It’s basically a 14-person dorm, with one bathroom and one shower for everyone. I’m convinced neither was cleaned during the four nights I stayed. The bathroom is in the lobby, while the shower is in the 6-bed dorm. To get there from the lobby, you have to walk through the 8-bed dorm, so people pass through that area whenever they leave or use the bathroom. Anyone showering also comes into the 6-bed room. The beds felt like they might collapse, and the bedding was torn and seemed unclean. The shower room and dorms smelled terrible, and there was mold in the showers. I saw a staff member only once during our whole stay, so there was no help. After we left, my travel companion found multiple bug bites all over her body. Don’t stay here, even if it’s cheap. Find another hostel.

The location is perfect. A homeless man was staying at the hostel while I was there. He was kind and polite, and I say that with full respect, but knowing he was there made me feel uncomfortable at first as a female traveler.
