Emonec Hotel

The staff were fantastic and very helpful, and the location is excellent. Rooms are usable, though nothing special, and breakfast choices are very limited. It feels like you're mostly paying for where it is. If you're traveling on your own, though, I'd avoid staying here. School groups use the hotel a lot, and big, noisy groups can show up at any time and take over the place.

The city-center location is great, though parking there is difficult. The hotel has an arrangement with a nearby car park, but you need to reserve ahead to get the discounted rate. We learned that only after we'd arrived. Our room was okay, but the key card stopped working every day and we had to go to reception to have it fixed. Breakfast was quite poor, with too little variety, and items weren't refilled promptly.

We were there for a week, Friday to Friday. The location is the big plus. A river view would make it even better, though I can see that would probably change the budget-friendly price. I wouldn't rule out staying again, but I hope there are some upgrades before our next visit. Keeping a hotel in top condition between guests can't be easy. The room felt tired, and the doors on nearby rooms looked similar, though I can't be sure about those rooms. The shower screen and tray leaked a little. Curtains were thin and shabby, so you'll need a blindfold if morning light bothers you. Bedding and towels could use replacing, and I found the loose foam pillows uncomfortable, though that may just be my preference. My wife missed having coat hooks, a small thing but useful. There was nowhere to leave valuables, and no secure luggage storage for early arrivals or late departures.

We found a few ants when we checked in at 5pm. It wasn't ideal, but we put up with it. By 10pm my wife felt them crawling on her face, and we counted at least a dozen. The security guard was very nice, though he didn't speak English, so I had to talk things through with him. They moved us to a room with two single beds and no windows, hardly what you want for a romantic getaway. The next morning the receptionist said nothing could be done. We weren't offered any refund, even a partial one. They offered an upgrade if we came back, but after that experience we don't want to. It was a disappointing end to an otherwise great trip, especially for the price.
