Hotel Vila Katrca

We asked to move our booking by just three days after our daughter suddenly became ill and her doctor officially advised against travel. We weren't seeking a cancellation or refund, only a little flexibility, but the manager eventually refused the change without explaining why or trying to find a solution. We didn't get a clear reply to our messages, and the staff member on the phone cut us off before we'd finished explaining. They said nothing could be done without the manager's approval. The whole experience was very disappointing. The lack of empathy and unprofessional treatment made it feel as if the rules mattered more than the people staying there. I wouldn't recommend this property to anyone expecting basic understanding.

We booked this place for the Ljubljana Marathon because of its excellent location. The attic room had low, sharply angled ceilings over the bed, which felt like a safety hazard. My friend nearly hit his head several times and could have been seriously injured. The shower barely worked, the towels were small, and the door wouldn't close fully, so there wasn't real privacy. We might have overlooked those problems, but the staff were cold, nervous and grumpy when greeting us at breakfast. A simple good morning would have made a difference.

The short walk to the old town and castle, about 10 minutes, is a plus. Still, from my point of view this place doesn't meet a three-star standard, and I'd only consider it for a one-night stop during a trip. Hygiene was the main problem: there was an extremely thick layer of dust on the flowers and furniture, and we found a menstrual pad under the bed. The room description on Booking was misleading, including the lack of soap. We could hear the ventilation system throughout both nights in the west-facing room. I don't recommend staying longer than one night.

It was a small, simple hotel with breakfast included, and the owners were helpful. Everything was clean when we arrived, though the towels were a little small.
