Zois Apartments

My studio had plenty of room, more than I’d expect in a typical hotel room, and the location was hard to beat. It’s right on Ljubljana’s main downtown street, but at the quieter end. There are loads of cafes nearby, the bus stop is across the street, and the woman at the front desk was very helpful. One small snag: arriving late at night, I couldn’t find the lobby. I called and was told it was on the 3rd floor, which made it easy to locate. The next day I noticed a sign on the first floor pointing upstairs, but it was small and easy to miss. Still, I’d highly recommend staying in an apartment here for a trip to Slovenia.

We had a lovely night in the deluxe apartment at Zois. The river and castle views were beautiful, and the place was in a great spot for reaching the river, historic centre, and all sorts of cafes, bars, and restaurants. Our spacious room had tasteful furnishings that made it feel warm and inviting. A perfect short stay.

The parking they recommended as “safe” was the worst part. It was about 200 meters away at “Nuk 2,” and we found our car in the morning with a broken window and several things stolen. Police told us break-ins are common in that supposedly secure area. We’d booked for two adults and two children, but they had recorded the children’s ages as 0 by mistake and charged us another 60 euros for them, even though the apartment was said to fit up to six people. Check-in also dragged on and was frustrating. The apartment was very old, with several broken items. The bed was incredibly hard, like sleeping on a table, and there was constant noise. Someone cutting grass right outside the window woke us rudely at 6 AM. A very disappointing stay. I’d strongly suggest looking a bit farther from the city centre for somewhere with genuinely safe parking and polite, helpful staff. Avoid this place if you can.

The room had a great view, and it was easy to walk to all the sights. We stayed three nights in the one-room apartment, which was spacious and clean, and the staff were kind and helpful. I took off a star because there’s no air conditioning in hot weather, so we had to keep the windows open and the street noise was pretty loud. I can imagine it being quieter in cooler weather with the windows shut. Still, it was a nice place to stay.
