Histrion Hotel

The rooms have been renovated and there’s plenty of space, but much of it feels unused. I would have liked more bathroom cabinets. The car park was completely full, and the spaces are too small. At busy times in the dining room, it was impossible to find an empty table with a placemat, and there weren’t any clean glasses or cups.

Our room at Hotel Histrion had a breathtaking sea view, and we could go straight into Termaris Sea Park, which was great for relaxing and having fun. The rooms were recently renovated, modern and very comfortable. The service was excellent, and there was a rich selection of delicious food. We had a great stay in Slovenia. Highly recommended!

This place offers really good value for money. It’s in a prime, quiet spot, and we loved our stay. The size of the venue could put some people off, though: it has 300 rooms over just three floors. The staff were friendly, although a few were a bit rough at first and warmed up later. The resort is nicer than Portoroz itself, which is similar but much cozier. It’s a 1.5 km walk along the seafront path to Piran and 2 km to Portoroz’s small center. We stayed half board, and the dinner choices were pretty solid on one of the two nights, which made the price worthwhile. Breakfast was okay, but the coffee comes from machines using instant coffee rather than beans. The hotel offers kids’ playrooms and daily programs, plus an evening mini disco. After checkout, departing guests can use the facilities until 17:00. They let us keep the paper sleeve for our room cards, and pool staff gave us wristbands for entry instead of the key cards. The huge pool area is included in the room price. It’s clean and bright, with floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows, four large indoor pools and a few small slides that kids up to about four or five would enjoy. The seafront is just one meter from the pools, with access from the pool area. The hotel was renovated five years ago, has plenty of parking, and is part of a larger resort area around a small marina. A few cafés and restaurants give it a lively feel, more like a little village than a resort. The building is shaped like a C, with one side facing the marina and the other looking out over the sea and the bay towards Croatia. Our room was about 25 square meters, with a balcony and plenty of storage, but a tiny, functional bathroom. The hotel didn’t provide pool towels, so we had to arrange a separate set for the saltwater pools and seaside.
