The owner was quick to answer all our questions, and having parking right below the room in the hotel garage was handy. Use the entrance from the main street. The one at the top of the hill is difficult to get into without damaging your wheels. Piran is about a 10-minute drive away, and there’s a bakery and coffee shop within a five-minute walk. The location is the big draw: a casino, around 20 restaurants, three gelaterias, shops, and the beach are all very close. Sunlight comes through the front windows, which is nice, though it also means the morning sun can wake you early. Better curtains or window shades would help with that and with the noise. People sometimes gathered to chat and smoke in the small courtyard outside at night, and the large windows let the sound into the room. Check-in took more effort than at a regular hotel. That’s typical for an apartment, but allow about 30 minutes rather than five. The place is in a strip mall between two dentists’ offices, which felt a little unusual. Their offices didn’t bother us since we were sightseeing during business hours, though I did wonder what it would be like during a normal workday. The air conditioner is in the main room, so the bedroom gets hot if you close its door. There are high windows between the rooms that might help, but they were closed during our stay and are at least eight feet up. I mentioned this to the owner. One tip about the hot water: there’s a switch by the bathroom light labeled “hot water.” Turn it on as soon as you check in. It’s a boiler, not an on-demand heater, and we ran out when everyone showered after waiting to switch it on. I don’t blame the owner, but suggested adding a note to the check-in information.
