The apartments sit on a peaceful hillside, with a nice view and plenty of room to sit outside. There are sun loungers, swings, and even hens, rabbits, and ducks around, giving it a little village feel while still being near the beach. Several apartments are right next to one another, so it works for a few small families or a group of friends. Parking is free, and the host replied to messages promptly. The walk to town or the beach takes about 20 minutes. It isn’t far, but the steep slope and stairs make it tiring. At arrival, a kind older woman was waiting for us, but she didn’t speak English, even though I’d arranged things in English through the website. We managed to understand each other. The room’s air conditioner was very dirty, so we didn’t use it. The beds were soft, and we would have preferred firmer ones, though that’s personal.

We paid 150 euros a night for what was advertised as a vacation apartment, but it turned out to be a shabby, monastic-looking studio. The price felt completely out of proportion to what we got, and I wouldn’t recommend it. The room itself was small, dark, stuffy, and uncomfortable, with a tiny kitchen counter beside the bed. The air conditioner didn’t work, there was no coffee machine or capsules, and we found only one towel in the shower despite being so close to the beach where towels are needed. The only window faced a room where a couple smoked, and their cigarette smoke came in. The landlady wouldn’t let us leave our luggage in the room before the 3 p.m. check-in, even though we explained there was chocolate in the suitcase that might melt in the heat. She didn’t speak English and wasn’t around to help, including at checkout. Getting there was difficult. We had to drive through a long, narrow passage between two stone walls, barely the width of the car, and take care not to scratch it. It’s apparently a two-way route, so if a car comes the other way, one of you has to reverse out of the way. Although there was parking near the room, we were told to leave the car on a distant median instead. Piran is supposedly close, but walking there means a tiring, awkward climb that’s hard without a car. We drove down to a crowded public parking lot, paid, and waited for the shuttle to Piran city center.

There weren’t many of us in the apartment, but it was clean and had everything we needed.
