Postojna Cave Hotel Jama

The reception team were very helpful, and the staff at breakfast were just as kind. We stayed one night with dinner and breakfast, and the buffet dinner had plenty of salads and some delicious desserts. After a day around the shops and cafes serving cave visitors, it was lovely to have the quiet hotel to retreat to. We also enjoyed a drink on the terrace and slept really well, though I’d have liked a choice of pillows, or a second one.

We were tired when we arrived around 7:30 in the evening, with most places already closed, so we stayed in and ate from the restaurant menu at the hotel bar. They were very accommodating and made it a relaxed, comfortable evening. Everyone, from check-in through the bar and restaurant, was fantastic and helped us unwind before our cave visit. The food was satisfying, and the apple strudel was incredible. Definitely five-star service.

We had a comfortable, good-sized room with a balcony, and the caves are right nearby. The hotel is large and clearly set up for tour groups. Breakfast had lots of choice, and they kept replenishing the food for the groups. It wasn’t the fanciest breakfast we’ve had, but it was perfectly fine. The weather was awful, so we decided at the last minute to eat the buffet dinner too. We felt much the same about that as breakfast. If the weather’s decent, it’s a safe walk on sidewalks into town, and I’d choose pizzeria Minutka instead.

The room turned out much bigger than it looked in the photos, and the bathroom was very good, especially the powerful rainfall shower. There’s a glass wall looking into the bathroom, which seemed odd, but a curtain covers it. The air conditioning wasn’t working fully, though the temperature was fine with the window open. Keep the bug screen pulled across: we learned that after a big bug flew in. One small annoyance was the hair dryer, which shut itself off before five minutes. I had to dry my hair in two-minute stretches, and my hair isn’t even very thick. Breakfast was tasty, with lots of fruit and soft, good bread, though not much cooked food to choose from. Still, there was enough to set us up for the day. We were there just one night, and the location is great for the caves, an easy five-minute walk over a pretty natural bridge beside a stream.
