Guesthouse Pri Tonetu

We left last night, and I’m still full. The home-made bread with pumpkin seed oil and the rest of the traditional Slovenian food were beyond my expectations. There was plenty to choose from, including soups, salads, meat, and fish. I loved it, though the beef soup noodles were overcooked. The apple strudel wasn’t sweet enough for me, so I asked for sugar to add myself. My Slovenian colleagues thought it was fine, so that may just be personal taste. They also have a lovely cat that lets you pet it. I liked the wine selection too, though taste is subjective: the white was really light, and the red was Refošk, a famous wine that was still good.

The staff were nice and the prices moderate. The home-made potatoes were very tasty, but one piece of meat was dried out and like cardboard, so I couldn’t eat it. The forks weren’t usable either, I couldn’t even get through the salad with them.

We’ve been coming here for at least 20 years because it used to be our favorite place for a filling, home-cooked meal. This year’s visit was disappointing, though. The food just wasn’t nearly as delicious as it used to be.

A great old-fashioned place to stop on the way to Terme Ptuj. Lots of good, home-style food, with plenty of kinds to choose from. Recommended.
