Grand Hotel Donat Superior

The saunas were only open from 4 to 7 pm, and our room got quite hot because the air conditioning wasn't working. I can't really imagine staying there in summer. The hotel was nice, if a little dated, and the breakfast and dinner were both good. Staff were friendly and helpful, and we appreciated the free parking in the enclosed lot.

The area around the hotel was quiet and restful, with parks and playgrounds for children nearby. Free parking was available on the grounds, and the value for money was very good. The rooms were clean and the hotel in solid condition. It's directly connected to the medical center, mineral water hall, shops, and spa. The pool and saunas were excellent. Staff were excellent too, and breakfast was great, with very good dinner choices.

The setting around Rogaška Slatina was lovely, with old buildings by the square, a nice coffee place across from it, and peaceful hiking trails nearby. I’d happily return to the town, just not this hotel. The room was really uncomfortable. We booked two beds and got them pushed together with a gap between them. The mattress was rock hard, the beds creaked, and I barely slept. The hallway doors didn’t fit their frames, so light poured in all night and every hallway noise carried into the room. I’ve never had that happen at another hotel. We chose the hotel for its range of saunas, but they only opened at 4 pm and two weren’t working. The rooms also felt outdated.

The hotel sits in lovely, clean surroundings, with free parking out front and plenty of walking and hiking options, though there was no snow when we visited. The staff were kind. Our room was very clean but simply equipped, with no iron or kettle. We were a couple and got two separate beds, and the mattresses and pillows weren’t very comfortable. The pool had clean, warm water, 29 degrees, and the jacuzzi was 34 degrees. It was quite small for such a large hotel. Breakfast was great, and the cakes were too. There was lots of food at dinner, but the cooking was poor, especially the meat. It was hard to tell what kind of meat was being served, and it all had a similar unpleasant taste. The New Year’s dinner was the worst part. At 80 euros per person, drinks weren’t included, not even water. The band played for 15 minutes at a time, then took 10-minute breaks, all night. There were no games or lottery, and they even missed the New Year countdown. Our stay was fine otherwise, but I wouldn’t recommend this hotel for celebrating New Year.
