The noise made it impossible to get proper rest. Traffic and passersby could be heard constantly, including drunk people at night. The garbage bins were right below the window, and they were noisy when used or emptied into the truck early in the morning. Our windows also faced the building’s front door. But the windows had to stay open because the room was hot, and the small bathroom smelled of sewage. There was no air-conditioning, and with south-facing windows, afternoon temperatures at the beginning of June went above 30 degrees. It was a ground-floor place split from one large apartment into two tiny studios. The bathrooms were cramped, and in studio 2 the door divided the bathroom in two, so reaching the sink meant stepping aside, closing the door, then moving over to the sink. A thin plasterboard partition did little to block sound, so even small noises from the neighboring studio came through. The place was dirty throughout. The bathroom grout and tiles were black, and the shower looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a decade, with hair and dirt stuck along the floor edges. There was lots of dust and hair on the lamp by the bed. The kitchen was filthy too, and we didn't dare use it. It had hotplates but no oven, microwave, or kettle. The fridge was the only good thing about it. Furniture was cheap and worn, and many pieces were locked because the owners kept their belongings inside. There was nowhere in the room or bathroom to hang towels after a shower. The bathroom had just one hand towel, and two jacket hooks were outside the studio by the shared door. The bed was very uncomfortable. The mattress had a big dip in the middle, leaving me at an angle, and the pillow was high, making the position worse. I somehow slept on my wrist, which was bent by the difference in levels. It still hurt several days later, and I might need to see a doctor. The mattress and pillow were disgusting, and I needed painkillers after sleeping there. Since early 2018, the owners have kept saying they'd ordered new mattresses, but they still hadn't replaced them. It seems they won't spend money on a fix if it isn't cheap. The shower door was broken and had been 'fixed' with a cheap IKEA curtain, while the old, dirty shower holder wasn't even mounted. There were odd notices on the walls, including one saying the place was monitored by cameras without saying exactly where, and others warning that guests would be charged for unwashed dishes or smoking. The 160 euros for four days and the Booking rating were nowhere near what we got. The owners take money but don't seem willing to put effort into the place, and even the cleaning wasn't OK. I would never stay there again.
