Hotel Peklo

The service and value were both great. A friend and I had been travelling for a while and had also walked ten miles in the scorching heat, apart from the train journey. On Saturday, May 31, at 2:40 pm, before heading back over the bridge to catch our train, we asked about buying a couple of beers to take away. The young woman at reception explained that the bar and restaurant weren’t open yet, but offered to ask the bar attendant. She was incredibly kind, saw how exhausted we were, let us buy some beers, and even invited us to drink them in the bar before opening time. Four large bottles cost just 15 euros. Thank you so much.

The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, and dinner was fabulous. My room was comfortable and clean. Easily the best place in this stretch of the lovely Danube.

For a group of friends on a cross-country bike ride, the price worked well. The staff were very helpful, and we could easily walk to the charming city centre. The hotel itself is a plain little place on a busy road, across from a casino, so the location isn’t ideal. The rooms are simple but functional.

The restaurant was excellent, with tasty local dishes to choose from, and I liked seeing the hotel make an effort to be eco-friendly. It’s new and fitted out in a modern style. We had to leave early, though, and weekend breakfast doesn’t start until 8 am, so we couldn’t try it. At check-in I asked about moving from our ground-floor room to an upper floor. Reception quickly said it wasn’t possible because the rooms were fully booked. I doubt that was true: we barely saw any other guests, there were hardly any cars in the lot, and we were the only diners in the restaurant during the three hours we spent there. The abrupt response felt unprofessional.
