Hotel David

This was an unplanned overnight stop while I was driving from Croatia to Poland, booked at the last minute. I’d expected more based on the photos and my conversation with staff. The reception being open 24/7 was useful, and the room was tidy. It was a heatwave, but there was no fan or air conditioning, and the room fridge was unplugged. I’d verbally confirmed breakfast for two, then we decided not to eat there. Even so, the morning staff member charged the full €12 for both breakfasts. He said he couldn’t provide takeaway, and nobody offered coffee, tea or water, although my partner and I were exhausted after the night. It felt like taking payment mattered while customer service didn’t. The hotel is in an industrial area. With the window open, trucks and heavy equipment can wake you as early as 5 a.m. For €80 a night including two breakfasts, I can’t recommend it to travellers. I should have read the reviews before picking this location.

The restaurant is excellent, with a lovely baroque feel, and our food arrived really fast. The building is new, rather fancy and decorated with good taste. Rooms are clean and cosy, and the place is quiet enough to rest. Still, visitors from abroad may be disappointed to find it out on the periphery in an industrial zone. The rooms can feel chilly, and there was no heating during cold autumn days. We also found spiders inside and out; they seem to like the place.

There’s parking, so that’s one less thing to worry about, and the Wi-Fi worked great. The place was beautiful and clean throughout, including the rooms and bathrooms. The staff were considerate, spoke English and treated us very nicely. I think the prices are fair because they really take the time to keep everything clean and pleasant.

I had a really good stay here. It’s a very quiet spot on the edge of the city, near a beautiful lake. My room was clean, and the staff were kind and supportive.
