Hotel Jánošík

The reception team were amazing from the moment I arrived, especially Victoria. They helped me find the ski/aqua splash bus stop, and the bar and wait staff were warm and friendly. Breakfast was good, and the bar food worked well on evenings when I didn't head into town. After skiing at Jasna, the steam room and sauna were much needed, and cost an extra €8. I had a great three-night stay. Amazing.

We booked two rooms for three nights, but this four-star hotel was poor, not even one-star quality. The only staff member we encountered was a very kind woman. The rooms were very hot with no air conditioning, and leaving a window open brought in lots of mosquitoes. We were given two fans after asking, one small enough for a car and one large. On the first night, one room's window couldn't be opened, so we were moved to another room, a suite, for an extra €40. Yes, a “special price.” The first morning, we had to leave breakfast by 9:00 because of a wedding that evening, as if we had to “fly out” of the dining room early. On the third day, many items were missing, the bread was dry, and we had to keep asking for food to be brought out. The hotel is dark, and the corridor light goes off after exactly one minute. It's unsuitable for older people and doesn't feel like a hotel at all, perhaps just a basic roadside stop. Not recommended at all.

The woman at the counter got really rude when I asked why she couldn't let us wait inside. My 15-year-old brother and I, aged 18, had a train leaving at 2:00 at night, but the station building was closing at 22:40. It was -5 C and getting colder, and we weren't dressed for that weather. Since it was very dark and cold, I asked if we could sit in the lobby for those three hours. She said she couldn't help us because we didn't have a room. I explained we'd otherwise be sitting in -10 C for three hours. We ended up spending the night on the platform benches, and we both got sick.

We arrived to find the wrong room, with a king-size bed instead of two separate beds. It took time and effort to get it changed. The price shown on the booking site differed from the bill by €30 for two nights. The only solution offered was a late checkout, which we didn't need. We would have accepted future SPA entry, dinner, or wine instead, but no. On the first day we reached the SPA at 21:10, expecting it to stay open until 22:00, but were turned away because we were the only ones there. The next day it did stay open until 22:00, and it was really good. I'll definitely avoid this hotel in future.
