The best part was the booking. I called reception, got a good deal, and the woman there gave us a lovely family room in a quiet spot, just as I’d requested. The staff were great, especially the men, and we had a pleasant stay. The food was fine, with an effort to offer something for everyone. Breakfast coffee was a letdown, though. It was awful instant coffee, and proper coffee cost extra. If you want a decent morning cup, be ready to pay for it. The hotel has spacious rooms and potential, but it felt boring at times because so much was closed. The bars took turns opening, never both at once, and once none were open, so we couldn’t get water anywhere. The whole place had a strange keep-everything-shut feel. The area around the hotel is run-down, which isn’t the hotel’s fault, but it’s worth adjusting your expectations before you arrive. The hotel itself also needs maintenance. Wear and tear was visible in many places, especially the rooms and bathrooms. The wellness facilities were the main reason we booked, so their hours were a major disappointment. The spa didn’t open until 4pm on most days, except Fridays and Saturdays. In winter and spring there isn’t much else to do, and we wanted a break from sitting by the pool. I’d assumed a four-star wellness hotel would have the spa available. We were there during spring school holidays and the hotel was busy, so I don’t understand why so much was always shut. And it definitely wasn’t open at noon, whatever the management response to someone else’s complaint suggested. With the limited services and facilities, it didn’t feel like a four-star hotel. After breakfast, it’s nice to walk along the Danube, or drive to Sturovo and cross the bridge into Hungary to Estergom. The church is beautiful and worth climbing all the way to the top and visiting the crypt. After all those steps, relaxing in the sauna would be lovely, if it’s open.

The staff were amazing and did their best, but management and communication were a real problem. Ask the same thing at reception and at the bar and you’d get two different answers. That makes us wary of visiting again, since more restrictions could appear without warning. We started out excited to come back, but got more disappointed the longer we stayed. We had the best apartment, with three separate rooms and a living room. Most of it was fine, but the bathroom wasn’t in good shape: the sink was clogged and the bath was dirty. The pool restaurant shut on Monday with no warning, leaving the main restaurant as the only option. Its main dish cost 15 euros. The bar was closed too, and the saunas only opened for a few hours from 4pm.

The rooms are nice and spacious, and the spa was amazing. Breakfast and supper had a good selection, though most of it was meat, so vegetarians had very few options. It could’ve been five stars, but during our ten-day stay there was no sign of room cleaning. That seemed to mean replacing towels and restocking toilet paper, which was disappointing.

The staff were awesome and always willing to help. The swimming area was good, with several kinds of pools and a slide in the children’s pool. The rooms were cleaned, and fresh, warm towels were provided daily. It was quiet at night, and the windows kept the sound out well. Still, I expected a lot more for nearly 300 euros for two nights. This wasn’t a four-star hotel, and the regular budget room was uncomfortable despite being spacious. Rain was already leaking in at the entrance. My wife’s massage appointment never happened, and the toys in the kids’ corner looked second-hand, with many broken or crushed, and definitely not sanitized. Stained, dusty toys sat on shelves barely attached to the walls. It felt like only guests in the expensive apartments would be comfortable here. The food was good and there was a decent choice at the buffet, but that was the only decent option. The à la carte menu was sad and very overpriced. The room itself was quite bad, and I expected more comfort than I have at home.

The pool area was large, with one warm pool for children and a main pool that was so cold it seemed suitable for swimming only, not relaxing. There was also a warm sitting pool with a whirlpool. Families used those pools to warm up babies and small children despite signs saying they were only suitable for children over six. They became overcrowded, and there was no chance to relax. The lifeguards didn’t try to enforce the rules. Children’s activities were scheduled almost every hour, and people who weren’t hotel guests could use the wellness area too, which made things worse. We left after an hour and cancelled our stay. At checkout, nobody even asked why we were leaving early. When we arrived, the hotel seemed okay, but clearly its best days were years ago. The surrounding area was depressing, though that isn’t the hotel’s responsibility. Dinner was poorly handled: too few tables, dirty dishes piled up everywhere, and food that looked thrown together. It tasted okay, but fell short of what I’d expect from a four-star hotel. It felt like they wanted to make money with as little effort as possible. The staff were friendly but overwhelmed. Breakfast was okay, nothing more. We went right at opening so we’d have a chance at a table and a little more choice than at dinner the night before. There wasn’t a double bed, just two singles pushed together. The room was a good size and the furniture was okay, though old. The bathroom tiles were broken, there was visible mold, and the hot and cold water were reversed. We couldn’t book a wellness treatment because there were so many guests and apparently not enough massage therapists. The wellness area was also closed on Sunday, which is unacceptable for a four-star wellness hotel. Compared with other four-star hotels in SK, this wasn’t even worth two stars.
