Penzión Dukát

We only stayed because the HELFEST festival and cycling marathon meant there was nowhere else to book. If I’d had another option in Prešov that day, I would have left, even with the reservation paid for. The smell was awful throughout, in the room and hallway. The walls were dirty and cracked, and we had to go out and buy clean sheets because ours had blood stains and the pillowcases smelled musty. There was no reception. I paid an extra accommodation fee to the cleaner, without getting a receipt. There was no wifi, and the TV channels were encrypted. I really hate leaving negative reviews, but I can’t see another way to describe it.

The place was dirty and shabby, with a terrible smell, spiders on the walls, and mold in the bathroom. I can’t recommend it.

We wanted to leave right away, but had no other option. The whole guesthouse stank, the room was a mess, the sheets felt stale, and there were cigarettes everywhere. People were there until 2 in the morning, and there seemed to be arguments in the rooms, probably among people who live there. There’s no reception, and the price was way too high for this. Never again. It’s a hostel.

We were there in January 2024, in winter, and were the only guests in the hotel. We had to spend the night because of the circumstances, then left first thing in the morning. The only things in its favor were the free parking and location. The room had no soap or towels, and forget about a microwave, stove, or fridge. We could barely get them to bring us a kettle. We slept cold, fully dressed, with the temperature no higher than 16 degrees. The hotel was very smoky, apparently the owners smoke too. The internet felt like it was from the early 2000s, and everything was broken and worn out. The last renovation was probably back in Czechoslovakia. The hotel seems to be dying, and the 50 euros we paid was worth less than half that to us.
