We spent Christmas 2024 at "Horský hotel Granit Smrekovica" and had an amazing time. Our three-year-old loved playing in the snow somewhere safe and sliding on the many paths around the grounds. Our corgi was happy there too. We stayed in the A3 house, which had a very warm heating system that you could adjust as you liked. There was a microwave and a small stove, so it was convenient to cook, and plenty of plates and cups. The shower had really hot water from a large boiler, maybe 50 liters. It’s a comfortable, welcoming place with fun winter activities and beautiful nature all around. You’ll definitely need wheel chains for the drive up. I’m looking forward to staying here again!

The mattresses were the one thing that let the hotel down, as they seemed past their useful life. Everything else was in great order: the staff were excellent and ready to provide proper service with a smile, and the kitchen was very good. There are also great trips around the area, with the hotel making a good base for exploring all directions of Velká Fatra.

Everyone on staff was friendly, helpful, and nice. The wellness area has four good-sized saunas, a small whirlpool, a cozy relaxation room, and a tiny cold plunge pool. The shower water was ice cold too. The hotel has plenty to do, including a cinema, library, lounge, PlayStation, and board games. WiFi was good, parking was spacious, though it’s a bit of a walk from there to reception with luggage. Our room was roomy and the bed comfortable, but the bathroom especially could use an update. Food was plentiful, with vegetables as sides and a vegetarian option, but it was typical old-school Slovak restaurant fare, lots of meat, sauces, and salt. The buffet breakfast and dinner were basic, and it wasn’t allergy friendly. Meal times were awkward: just an hour for breakfast and a little over an hour for dinner, specifically 8:30-9:30 and 17:30-18:45. It’s manageable, but annoying. Still, it’s a really good hotel for hiking, in a beautiful area with a lot to do, and I’d stay again.

We had a great time here. The chalets are cozy, breakfast was excellent, and the wellness facilities were super. The staff were really nice and accommodating, and there’s the option of a beautiful cycling trip.

The front desk woman was very kind and tried to fix things, but my first interaction in the restaurant sent me elsewhere. After making the hardest climb in Slovakia on my bike to get there, I wasn’t served because I wanted to eat on the terrace, where they wouldn’t let me sit. The restaurant lady was really ugly to me, apparently because I wanted to eat at the “wrong” time. It’s sad to hear how hard life in the service industry is these days with Corona, while some people still won’t let me spend my money.
