Aplend Tatry Holiday Resort

The restaurant was the highlight: proper comforting Slovakian food at night and an exceptional breakfast in the morning. It was a quiet in-between-seasons period, and the staff were great. At breakfast, a young lady was always smiling and ready to help. With our limited Czech, Slovakian, and English, we had some lovely conversations to start the day. I spent 4 nights here while hiking in the High Tatras and really enjoyed the stay. The room was comfortable, clean, and reasonably well equipped. Finding the property was tricky in the dark, as there was very little signage, if any. I only got to see a small part of the High Tatras trails, so I'm sure I'll return, and I hope to stay here again. Thanks to everyone for a great visit!

On 21.12.2024 at 18:15, two women were smoking in front of reception when we arrived. They seemed quite unhappy to welcome us, though we did get checked in. We asked to use the sauna and were first told it was booked. We explained we'd paid for it in advance and wanted a refund if we couldn't use it. Within a minute, a slot was available. They handed us the sauna keys and left us to lock everything up ourselves. As on previous visits, there were no glasses or water set out. In past years everyone had been really nice, but this time those two women seemed unhappy with their jobs.

We were meant to stay for 4 nights as a family of 5, but after the first night we left without any refund. The place was so filthy and disgusting that we couldn't sleep there. The receptionist was rude, and the rooms were dirty, with cobwebs everywhere, dead bugs squashed on the walls, dust, and a bad smell. I've never stayed in accommodation this dirty. The toilets were small and uncomfortable. Money thrown away.

We still had a good time, and the on-site restaurant was pretty good, so I'm giving it 4 stars. But for a price that's quite high for Slovakia, they could provide more: soap and shampoo in the house, a better equipped kitchen, laundry service, hot water in the sauna bathroom, and a clean pool to jump into after the sauna. The place itself is very nice. A few more euros of investment could make the guest experience much better.
