I could hardly bear the thought of going home. The beach and that breathtaking ocean view stayed with me, along with all the people who made the visit special: Kevin and Mendez, Chef Alfonse and his food, and Bertrand the Lawyer, the owner, who shared a little of his life with us. The building is wonderfully strange, shaped like a ship, with murals, bits of writing in English, and little hearts tucked into hidden spots. Rooms each have their own theme and title, and ours was 'Love Nest'. Its raised twig bed echoed the name, while a vivid yellow mural showed an African woman bathing at sunset in a tub shaped much like the bed. From the inner corridor, rooms look out over the jungle-like courtyard and pool, almost like lifeboats. A huge wooden and bamboo cabin rises at the centre. We found one surprise after another while exploring the hotel. There was a small terrace above the pool with two tables, a nautical bar with a boat keel for its front, and a rope bridge suspended 8 meters above the pool. Only two people could cross at once, with coconut palms all around. A large covered hall had long tables, seashell decorations, and glowing wings on the walls. Nearby, the tiki-style bar had swings instead of stools. Later, on the stairs back to our rooms, we stopped speechless at the ocean spread out from a small terrace, wild under the stars. From my travel journal: 'It speaks to us. Wordlessly.'

Our family had a delightful visit to Maison du Bonheur on Ngor Island. It was a charming, peaceful retreat that kept the kids engaged while giving us a chance to relax. The welcoming atmosphere made us feel at home right away, and the children could explore and play safely. The staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. The food was fresh and well prepared, with options that everyone enjoyed, including the youngest. Our accommodation was clean and comfortable, with what we needed for a family stay. Maison du Bonheur made the trip memorable with its mix of comfort, hospitality, and a calm setting. We'd happily recommend it to other families looking for a welcoming place to stay.

The building is gorgeous, though the food didn't stand out.

The staff are friendly, and though the wait was long, we enjoyed our meal. It's a nice spot for a meal or some snacks, and they serve alcohol too. I also like the way the place is set up. It has a bit of history, and part of the revenue goes toward educating vulnerable communities.

The island felt like home once most visitors had left before sunset, and waking up happy and going to bed content became our routine. Ngor Island is a special place, and we feel lucky we stayed there, away from Dakar's crowds. The team made the stay unforgettable. Captain Mendes greeted us from the boat on the beach, and after eight nights we had an emotional goodbye with everyone. Chopper was amazing and, as he put it, became like family. Worldson kept us entertained and brought drinks, and the kitchen team was 10/10. Bertrand, the owner, was warm and friendly, and always available on WhatsApp when I needed him. This hotel is something special. It may not have every luxury amenity, but that didn't matter to us. On a beautiful remote island, who needs reliable WiFi to escape the city? If I could give the service more stars, I would. Maison Du Bonheur, we love you!
