Camp Du Désert – Esprit d’Afrique

The camp made for the best part of my time in Senegal. You get comfortable tents and plenty to do in the Lompoul desert, from camel riding and quad biking to traditional nightlife under the moonlit, starry sky.

The desert is a dream, and the staff were so nice and motivated. Dinner was much better than I expected, a really good three-course meal each night. My favorite place so far. We’ll definitely come back!

Every evening there’s a shared dinner with really good local dishes, and I think they organize music around a campfire each night too. I was especially impressed by the tents and the fact that each one has its own proper bathroom and shower. It’s a lovely place, and quite different from what you usually see in Senegal. We had a very pleasant stay.

They only take cash, and we ended up spending all ours on the room. It’s very expensive, and there are no activities included, so we didn’t have much to do. We’d known about the cash policy beforehand. We did take a camel ride, but had to go into town to get more money to pay for it. The tent was hot and the bed flat, though the toilet was nice. Otherwise, you can sit in the sun loungers or get a warm beer at the bar. The only other option was renting a quad, which could’ve been awesome, but we couldn’t afford it because they don’t accept cards.
