Guesthouse Mangueira

The owner confirmed our room reservation, but after we arrived at Suriname Airport, we got a message saying the hotel was full and couldn't accommodate us. It seemed they'd put someone else in the rooms despite our booking, so we had to find another hotel. I strongly recommend avoiding this place. The owner is a crook.

The bathroom setup was one of the strangest parts of my stay. It has separate doors for the shower and toilet, divided by a wall that doesn't go all the way up. With only one bathroom for more than 13 people, hosts included, I regularly found someone else in there at the same time. The rooms are too small for the number of guests and have to be shared. I was stressed most of the time at Mangueiras. You can hardly do anything without being reprimanded, and there's no recreation or entertainment. Meals are whatever they serve, with no choice. The pool in the real advertising photos isn't functional, so don't count on it. Most staff were unpleasant and treated guests badly. When another guest complained to Frank, the main host, Frank used the fact that I was a tourist in an unfamiliar country to treat me badly too, and even threatened to call the police. I felt like I was in a beautiful prison. This was among the worst days of my life. The place could be great, but it isn't. I wouldn't come here, and if you doubt me, COME.

Everything felt fake to me. If you want to feel miserable and like a prisoner, that's your choice, but I wouldn't advise anyone to rent here.
