Sheva Hotel

On May 13, I checked in and paid 90 USD for one night with my VISA card. They also required about 90 USD in cash as a deposit, supposedly to be returned at checkout if the room was intact. An hour later, the receptionist said the card had been declined and demanded the full payment in cash. My bank account showed SHEVA HOTEL had authorized 90 USD, so the money was blocked, but I paid cash anyway. The bank later processed the card payment too. Since then, Sheva hotel has refused to reimburse the 90 USD cash payment, claiming the bank payment never reached them.

I’d give zero stars if that were possible. There's no restaurant, the service is poor, and they don't take MasterCard or American Express. I rented a room with a jacuzzi, and while I was using it, a pipe burst under the tub. The motor was so noisy that we couldn't hear the leak, and water flooded the floor. The manager blamed us and even tried to make me pay for the damage. He was rude, refused to give me another room, and I left without a refund, renting somewhere else at midnight. The location is bad too, with no cab nearby. Do yourself a favor and book somewhere else.

I had a terrible experience when I tried to collect my 100 USD deposit early in the morning before catching the ferry back to Guyana. I couldn't get it myself, so I had to arrange for a complete stranger to collect it and send it to my home in Guyana. They should have proper arrangements in place.

It was already 3pm and we were hungry, but the cook had only just arrived to make our lunch. This isn't a place I'd recommend for a relaxing visit. We were starving.
