Laola Surf Camp El Sunzal

The waves are phenomenal. Javi had me riding giants by day two and kept me at it until I was carving S’s through the blue planes. The vibes were brilliant too. Honestly, I’ve never been to a better surf camp. Miguel, the host, has a Parisian’s charm and a gentleman’s moustache. Jordyn graces the hotel with her beauty and smile. You won’t want to leave. Shakespeare aside, it’s a phenomenal place.

At La Ola, the people make it special. They look after us in a way that makes room for joy, play and being present. They notice you, remember you, cheer you on, and make it easy to say yes to another wave, another dance, or a slow coffee in the morning light. I arrive and feel my whole life switch on. I’ll dance for hours with women cheering me on, end up on stage with Free Spirit, then wake up to surfing, sunshine and ocean air. Every day reminds me how vividly alive I am. Mary Oliver wrote, “Pay attention. Be amazed. Tell about it.” That’s what I do here. I notice the beauty around me, keep being amazed by people’s kindness and energy, and can’t help telling everyone how extraordinary this place is. Thank you all for your love, care and authentic hospitality. You’re special, and this place is a gift to everyone.

I’m back for my second stay at Laola, and they’ve come through again. The house is comfortable, the location is amazing, and the food is absolutely impeccable. The surf instructors are professional and fantastic teachers. I can’t recommend Laola enough!
