The resort is beautiful and sits on a lovely beach and bay, and the people were very nice. But poor management and service ruined the stay for us. The room looked lovely, yet its air conditioning wasn’t working when we arrived late in the day. We were told someone would fix it right away. It was still broken after dinner, and when we raised it again the next morning, we got the same promise. After complaining several times a day, someone finally came four days later. Even the manager didn’t seem very concerned that we had no air conditioning in nights around 80 degrees. Getting towels was a hassle, too. You have to walk a long way from the pool to the front desk to exchange them, and the desk closes early, so you can’t get fresh ones at night for the next morning. Housekeeping cleaned every day but left just two shower towels for our family of four. When we called the front desk or asked housekeeping for more, they said someone would bring them right away, then didn’t show for at least 24 hours. At the pool bar, one bartender had about ten customers waiting at any given time. Things moved on “island time,” so each drink took at least 40 minutes. Even with all-inclusive, we had to sign a receipt for every order, adding another five minutes. These are only a few of the many problems we encountered. The resort itself is beautiful, but the service was absolutely horrible.

I’m staying at this “resort” now, and the photos make it look much better than it really is. The price doesn’t feel justified. There’s mold on the bathroom caulk, which should be an easy fix, and the bathroom water smells like rotten eggs. The room is average, like an airport room. I booked the oceans because the website described it as newer, but it isn’t. My room looks as if someone broke in, and the locks haven’t been fixed. The beach is amazing, though the island has amazing beaches all over. The food isn’t great, so I’d take a cab and eat somewhere else. Some guests complain about slow service, but I expected island time and don’t mind that part. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

The check-out went smoothly, but this was one of my worst stays in St. Maarten. When we arrived in our rental car, we weren’t allowed to unload near the entrance and had to drag our bags across the parking lot. There was just one bellman, and the 20-minute wait nearly made me cancel. After he helped us, we were told we could call for assistance later, but nobody answered. Walking across the resort late at night without a bellman or transport felt unsafe. Parking rules were inconsistent, sometimes we could park near the entrance and sometimes we couldn’t. I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless you plan to stay put the whole time. Staffing and guest support need to improve. It also left a bad impression that when I reached the front gate, the woman security guards seemed unwilling to open it for me. It felt unfair and frustrating, and their inconsistent attitude toward female guests added to the already poor experience. Instagram @tanyb310 TikTok @tanyb310 Stay tuned for video

We compared several places for our four-day trip, including The Hills, Morgan Bay, and Oceans at Divi Little Bay, and I’m so glad my husband and I chose Oceans. The room was spotless and spacious, with complimentary drinks in the fridge. We actually called to make sure they were free. I was amazed not to see any bugs, especially in the Caribbean. Everyone we met was warm and welcoming, even at the security checkpoint. Eddy took us to our room and was wonderful. Rides usually arrived within about five minutes when we called. The exception was Saturday midday, when we couldn’t reach anyone, so we walked to the lobby. It was packed, but the staff stayed attentive and did their best to take care of everyone. There was a small mix-up while we waited for a ride back to our room. I think the security guard was new and a bit frazzled, but she was friendly. Eddy asked who was next, and it was us, but she seemed to think check-in guests had priority. He calmly and respectfully explained that all guests are treated equally and it’s just whoever is next. I appreciated how kindly he handled it and how well she took the feedback. He told her she was doing a great job and that mistakes happen when it’s busy. That moment really stood out. On Monday mornings, I also saw staff cleaning and painting outside, so they clearly care about upkeep. Everyone we met was kind and accommodating. We’ll absolutely come back and stay at Oceans again. I hope management sees this because Eddy deserves a lot of praise. Another gentleman with a long ponytail was great, too, and recommended clubs and lounges for nightlife. I forgot his name.

Paulina, Akiba, and Jamilka were especially kind and attentive, and the whole hotel staff made our stay feel memorable. We had an incredible time at Divi Hotel and loved the food, especially the coffee. I’d highly recommend it if you’re looking to relax, eat well, and enjoy the island.
