We went twice during our week on the island and had a perfect day both times. The soft, clean beach stretches about a mile and is great for a walk. The beach itself was the best, and the attendant set us up with a chair and umbrella. There were no tacky fees, just tip him. The beach bar and restaurant has excellent food, fresh and fairly priced. The place was super clean, and we were glad to have comfy couches under the covered patio for shade. The food was excellent.

Alvin picked us up at the airport with no wait, and we chatted like lifelong friends. Each day Derrica was lovely to be around and made sure we had towels and fresh linens when we asked. The restaurant staff were wonderful too, especially Erica & Eric, whose smiles and welcoming manner warmed our hearts. Communication was open and honest from the first day of planning our island stay. The Aquamarine Suite felt like heaven, and the property was just the right size. We were Boonies (Mary's Boon) all the way, and now we won't stay anywhere else when we visit the island.

The ocean and the waitstaff were the best parts. Everyone was so kind and thoughtful, and the food and drinks were excellent with generous portions. It was just what I wanted in an island resort: comfortable, clean accommodations, but not a posh American high rise. If that's what you're after, this isn't the place. I'd definitely go back.

The restaurant was nice and the service was pleasant, though slow. There was just one server, who was also tending the bar. She made amazing drinks, and the food came out fairly quickly. The vegan burger was very bland, though. Some kind of sauce would've helped.

The bathrooms were disgusting, and we had to shower with flip flops on. The pictures look photo enhanced. Management is awful, and the place doesn't seem to have any restaurant or hotel experience. I'm just telling the truth here, not trying to mislead people who work hard and look forward to a good vacation. When the owners are more transparent, they'll have more success. To me, El Zafiro is a motel, not a boutique hotel. The restaurant menu is awful, on the level of Denny’s restaurants. It's about 500 feet from an active runway with over 50 flights a day, next to large jet fuel tanks. The beach isn't private, and the public beach had dog poop all over it. There were also dogs running loose in the neighborhood. All the positive reviews may be from their friends or staff. Unless you like sleeping beside a runway, this place isn't for you.
