Jess Hotel Kpalimé

The location is a big plus for Jess Hotel, right at the edge of the city and just a few feet from the road. It’s good value, and breakfast is included, though the bathrooms need more work. The toilet in my room was loose, and there was no mesh on the windows to keep mosquitoes out. Breakfast was basic, with croissants, orange juice and fruit. Mr. KOMI at reception was nice. The gatekeeper washes your car every morning, so remember to give him something to brighten his day.

The rooms were clean, but they also had holes and dirty walls, cracked tiles and a dusty closet. The staff were stretched thin, though very helpful. The restaurant was a big letdown because most of the menu wasn’t available. It’s a shame they don’t use local produce for the buffet breakfast when Kpalimé has such great produce. The pool area was lovely, but once again they didn’t stick to the time. Jess Hotel is passable, with the potential to be great under the right management.

The breakfast was just two stale croissants from the day before, with no bread, and when we asked for anything else, we were told there was no breakfast. The pool was mostly closed, and we ended up having to force our way in. Even getting sheets required yelling at the staff, who seemed surprised that guests had arrived and were extremely unprepared and unhelpful. The hotel looks modern and nice, but the stay was very unpleasant. It’s also one of the most expensive hotels in Kpalime. My advice is to avoid it completely.

The pool and kitchen could be better, but this is still good value. The rooms are decent, with air conditioning and hot water, and the WiFi works. Staff were friendly and competent.
