Anda Sea Tales Resort

We came with our one-year-old daughter, and the staff were so warm and kind to her that we felt very welcome as a family. Our room was modern, roomy, and consistently clean, with excellent shower pressure. Breakfast was fresh and delicious each morning, with lots of choice. We especially enjoyed ordering omelets or scrambled eggs at the live egg station. The rooftop infinity pool was a lovely spot to unwind. We originally booked just a week at Anda Sea Tales, but soon decided to extend from February 1st to February 13th. The hotel manager made that possible, and we're grateful. The location was convenient, around a 15-minute walk to Landmark Night Market, and booking tours or renting a scooter through the hotel was easy. The scooter cost 350 Baht per day, which seemed fair. Thanks to the whole team, we'd gladly return.

The rooftop pool was a real highlight, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Um at the tour desk deserves a special thanks for helping arrange tours and boat transfers. The location in Ao Nang was convenient for me, close to the airport, Ao Nang Beach, Ao Nang Night Market, and other attractions, all just a few minutes' walk away. I came away with a very positive impression and think the hotel earns its 4-star rating. Room service was the main letdown. Cleaning seemed careless, with towels sometimes missing. Once, face towels weren't provided and I had to call the front desk twice to ask for them. The room cleaning organization and quality could be better.

The best things about Anda Sea were a pretty rooftop terrace with a great view and a few staff members who were very nice. Even so, we won't return or recommend it. I can't understand the 4-star rating. We arrived at 8:30 pm on 19 February and asked for food, but were told the last order was at 8 pm. The hotel has one elevator for eight floors. Our room smelled of chlorine and drainage throughout the stay. I don't know if the private balcony pool caused it, but a pool that can't be kept from smelling shouldn't be offered. The sheets were stained, which was appalling for a 4-star hotel, and the bed was old, hard, and uncomfortable. My boyfriend and I managed to sleep on it, but that doesn't change how uncomfortable it was. Breakfast was terrible. I've backpacked extensively in hostels across the Americas and never had one this bad. I believe some items may have been past their expiry date. I bit into a croissant and had to spit it out because it was inedible. Our room, 501, also lost power for an hour at 4 am on two nights in a row. The air conditioner kept switching on and off, making noises, and the lights flickered, so we couldn't sleep. I suspect the owners keep the hotel run down because it's in Ao Nang and expect people to keep paying despite its poor condition. Before arriving at Anda Sea, I stayed at two 4-star hotels in BKK and Chiang Mai, and neither was run so poorly. For an extra 200, you'd be better off at a hotel with better reviews, such as Chada. PS: I'm not a “Karen.” My other reviews here and on Booking show that I'm pretty nice and reasonable. Anda Sea just isn't it.

The room smelled badly of drains, and as someone sensitive to smells, that was enough to bring my rating down to 3 stars. We bought several air fresheners and eventually used towels to block the shower drain and bathroom door to lessen it. I felt the smell was beyond housekeeping's control. The room cleanliness also wasn't up to standard. For someone less sensitive, I think this might be a 4-star stay. Apart from that, Anda Sea Tales was great in many ways: spacious rooms, friendly staff, a good location, an amazing view, and both the regular and private pools were lovely. I've seen comments about unfriendly staff, but that wasn't my experience. They weren't especially proactive, for example with luggage, but they weren't unfriendly; you need to ask for help. There may be a language barrier, and we can't expect people to accommodate us in English in their own country.
