The setting up on the hill was unreal, surrounded by jungle, monkeys, and cliffs. It felt like paradise. The huts are rustic, cute, and clean, and staff would clean our room while we were out if we asked. There’s no electricity during the day, but that didn’t bother us since we were out and about. We stayed in the chill out bungalows for about 8 days over Christmas on a climbing trip, and the people were wonderful. Every staff member was warm and accommodating. The food was probably the best we had on the whole trip, and we ended up eating at the chill out bar every day. Please pass on a big thank you to the kitchen ladies and servers. If you want to lounge around an all-inclusive resort all day, this might not suit you. But for people who love the outdoors, climbing, nature, wildlife, great food, and lovely people, don’t be put off by negative reviews. You won’t regret staying here.

The front desk team were amazing and so helpful, and A, the bar man, and the restaurant staff were just as friendly. If you stay in Chillout, go climbing with Max & Bao. They’re the best! We’d booked one night with my boyfriend and ended up adding three more. The bungalows are simple but great, and I was worried about mosquitos, but there weren’t any inside. It’s such a beautiful place with beautiful people. We can’t wait to come back. Thank you ❤️

Tonsai beach is great, and the place has good rooms, a good location, a quiet atmosphere, and nice people. Booking at the desk costs less than online. But they were burning trash right beside our bungalow. I felt like a rat being fumigated, so I had to leave and come back a few hours later. It was no better, and I left. I had to demand to speak to the manager before they returned part of my payment. They didn’t want to refund me. It’s crazy to burn trash there. Such a shame, because I liked the place.

The people are the reason to stay here. I was traveling solo and looking for climbing partners, and ended up meeting some of the nicest, raddest people from all over the world. I hope I stay friends with them for life. The vibes are great. I’d probably stay again because you’re so close to the climbing and everything Ton Sai has to offer. The accommodation itself is very basic, and a bit gross. The women-only dorm has two bunk beds for four people. The bathroom was always soaking wet, from the floor to the sink, and I had to wipe down the toilet seat before using it. The beds squeaked and were really hard. I saw the bedding left unchanged between guests. There’s no AC at night, and even with the fans on the room was hot and stuffy. It felt cooler outside in the breeze. I peeked into the mixed dorms, which seemed to have thicker mattresses and only three people, so I’d recommend booking one of those. The bathrooms were still gross there, though. I took the jungle trail between Railay and Tonsai to get here. It was maybe a 10-15 minute beach-to-beach hike carrying all my stuff, and I recommend it. Walk toward the end of the beach to find the very obvious trail. In the town area, by the cliff side bar, take the stairs on the right and go up past the nice-looking bungalows. When you see an open gate on the left, go through and keep walking a bit. chill out will be on the right.

There probably isn’t a cheaper place this close to the beach, about a 5-minute walk. Lots of cabins at different heights with different views. From ours, we could see the valley cliffs. No power from 6-6, and the toilets are a bit dated, but hey. Monkeys in the morning and afternoon, plus great birds. Hippy vibe.
