Palmthien Pool Villa Aonang

I've stayed here for a month in each of two seasons, and it has got worse. The price for December is now 25,000 baht for 30 days, up from 20,000 baht last year. There were no lights around the grounds, so by 6 pm it was completely dark. The roofs leaked, and when the manager made us move to another house, there was no discount for the leak. The staff were rude and didn't speak English. The pool water was green, and our two children, aged 7 and 6 months, caught a virus from it.

The pool was the best part, and renting bikes on site was handy. For Ao Nang, the price is low, but that doesn't make it good value in this case. I'd look elsewhere. The properties are large, but very basic and poorly built, and the beds are extremely hard. The staff weren't much use, to be honest. It could be cheap and cheerful, but it didn't quite manage the cheerful part.

The pool and the view were gorgeous, and the place itself is stunning. Staff were friendly and helpful, though you'll need a translation app to communicate. It's about 10 minutes from the Ao Nang strip. The downside was a sewage smell after showering, but I'd still recommend it.

A cute little villa with a nice pool, and I had a good stay. It's a good option if you want to be away from the tourists near the beach. You will need a scooter, and you can rent one from the receptionist. There's no Grab ride service in the Ao Nang area. Rooms only get cleaned if you request it, and there's an extra fee.
