Momento House

The room was stuffy all night, with mosquitoes inside even though every window was shut. The air conditioning barely worked, and we couldn’t open the windows for some fresh air. We didn’t sleep at all. It was a horrible stay. The lovely photos are misleading. Booking.com showed 1,112 baht a night, and the front desk poster said 1,090, but we were quoted 1,150. They offered breakfast for an extra charge, which we turned down, then we found out breakfast was apparently included in that 1,150 baht. It was very basic and unpleasant, and valued at 30 baht per person. They charged for even the smallest things, and there wasn’t any hand soap. I also found a cockroach in the room.

The place has a homey feel, and most of the space is shoes-off, like in a typical Thai home. The front desk staff were especially friendly and helpful. Breakfast was amazing too. They gave us a menu of options at check-in, and the meal was even better than I expected. I really enjoyed staying here and would come back.

The walls are thin enough that you can hear everything, which was the main drawback. Otherwise, we were happy with our one-night stay. The rooms were clean, the air conditioning worked, and the bathrooms were good. The place looks nice, with lots of wood, and the staff were kind and helpful. There’s a minibar, a kettle, and a microwave at reception, handy for a small evening snack since there isn’t much nightlife nearby. Breakfast wasn’t a huge spread, but I thought it was cute, and the local soup was great. Thai TV probably won’t interest foreign guests much.

The staff, mostly women, really made the stay memorable. They were so welcoming, and the lobby and shared areas were pleasant to hang out in. The whole place is organized, well managed, efficient, and spotless. The rooms are very spacious, though the building means there isn’t much natural light. That wasn’t a major issue for me. The location isn’t the most convenient, since it’s far from the main attractions. At THB 1,150 a night in Aug'24, it also felt a little pricey given the location and access to major transit spots. Still, I had a pleasant stay and a great experience with the people running the place.
