Staying Hostel

My flight was suddenly cancelled, so I urgently needed somewhere near the airport for one night. At first, things felt reassuring. A young man answered my call in excellent English, speaking calmly and kindly when I was mentally exhausted. He said he was the owner and that his mother helped clean each morning. The hostel seemed clean and well managed, and they both seemed kind. I felt safe. The next morning, his mother confronted me aggressively with a bedsheet and accused me of leaving a “stain.” She'd been friendly just minutes earlier, so I was confused. I looked closely and couldn't see a clear mark. It could have been water, perhaps from wet hair, but she insisted it was “oil” and demanded money straight away. I tried to explain calmly. I've travelled solo many times and stayed in plenty of hostels without damaging anything or having a conflict. Sheets are meant to be washed, and there was no proof I'd caused a mark, or even that the sheet came from my bed. She shouted and became hysterical without listening. She wanted 250 THB, which seemed extremely high for a bedsheet. When I said I couldn't pay, she got angrier. I felt unsafe and left temporarily without my luggage because I was afraid something might happen if I took it with me. While I was on the phone telling her son what was happening, she stood beside me and laughed as I said I was scared. I later asked the tourist police and the Japanese embassy for advice. The owner then messaged that if I wouldn't pay, I should take the sheet, since they wouldn't use it again. I was later warned that taking it could cause legal trouble, so I refused. What began kindly ended in intimidation over something unproven. Future travellers should be very cautious.
