Check in during the day if you can. The kind, sweet morning-shift guy helps with everything and explains what you need to know. At night, you may run into the angry old man, who demands extra money and gets annoyed with foreigners or tourists.

I'd stayed in lots of hostels, but this was my worst experience. My noisy roommates from South Africa wouldn't follow the lights-out rules, and when I brought it up with the owner at the front desk, he didn't care or help. I left after just an hour. It's near the airport, but the service wasn't worth it. I paid the same price back in PH and never had this kind of stay. Maybe it just wasn't my day, but the service was as cheap as the price.

Overseas Chinese owners and Indian taxi drivers. If you've got plenty of money, no problem.
