Our stay from 10-12 Oct 2020 turned into a nightmare. We had booked through Agoda and paid 2,828.66 on Wednesday 7-Oct. The charge showed on our credit card, and we had the booking and payment proof with us. When my wife arrived to check in on the night of 10-Oct, the front desk refused her because the staff, with the owner also there, said the hotel was no longer accepting Agoda bookings. They said Agoda had not paid them for nearly two months since reopening after COVID. We showed our proof, but they still argued with us for a while before finally letting us in. What made this stranger was that four groups of Agoda guests had checked in before us without any apparent trouble. The next day, 11-Oct, a staff member demanded 1,400 baht in cash for the two nights. We refused and showed the payment records again. They threatened to throw us out, saying the Agoda issue was our problem and we should get a refund from Agoda ourselves. The woman at reception first said the hotel had been unable to contact Agoda for two months, then suddenly said they had just spoken to Agoda and we could get our money back, so we should pay immediately. On the morning of 12-Oct, when we tried to leave, the staff and manager stopped us and demanded the same cash payment. The manager raised his voice at my wife and said we couldn't leave until we paid. She was frightened and needed to take our daughter to a swimming competition at ABAC early that morning. I called the hotel and told the manager I would press charges. He let us go, but threatened that he had all our information and IDs and would “chase after” us. That afternoon, we received an email from the hotel manager saying, “I apologize to you. I have only just managed to access the back-office system”, which means, “I apologize to you, I had just been able to access the back office system.” To the owner and the so-called “management team”: consider selling the property and investing in something you can run well. You are not fit for the hospitality business.
