Thai House House

The two days of cooking with Pip were much better than we expected, and the early morning market visit was a real treat. We learned a lot about Thai food, which made ordering meals for the rest of our holiday much easier. The family made us feel very welcome, and we loved getting to know them. As the cooking school’s first guests of 2019, we were impressed by the hospitality and spotless accommodation. We were picked up from our hotel in Bangkok and taken by boat up the river to the little jetty behind the garden. Their traditional wooden house on stilts was beautifully built, and easily the best place we stayed in Thailand. We’ll be back.

We started 2020 with a merit-making visit to a nearby temple, followed by the included breakfast. The family who run this place were generous and attentive to details, and it brought back memories of the old Thai way of life. I found this quiet hideaway in Bangyai, Nonthaburi, just outside Bangkok, for a New Year break with my family. It’s an antique two-story wooden house with a small canal behind it, where you can travel by small boat. The clean bedroom is about 15 sqm, with a separate living area at the front, and fits two guests. There’s no TV or air conditioning, which makes it a good spot for a digital detox. The shared bathrooms are on the same floor.
