Almas Hotel Bangkok

I came away feeling that Almas Hotel Bangkok was nowhere near the four-star standard it advertises. Based on my stay, I’d put it at one or two stars at most, and I’d advise people expecting comfort and honesty to avoid it. Calling it disappointing barely covers it, and I found the experience unsalvageable. The room itself had several problems. The windows shown in the promotional photos look open and unobstructed, but in person they’re covered by metal bars like prison grilles. There are bars on the partly blocked bathroom window too. The air conditioning was noisy, and I could hear everything from my fifth-floor room because it wasn’t soundproof. There wasn’t a proper wardrobe, so a longer stay would mean leaving your suitcase open and clothes spread around. Service was just as frustrating. I asked for two pillows, waited 45 minutes, and was given two toothbrushes instead. I then waited another hour for the pillows. When I asked about restaurants nearby, staff said there was only one and it closed at 9 pm, which is hard to believe in Bangkok. The hotel’s Booking listing says it’s well connected and surrounded by restaurants, but that didn’t match what I was told. Staff suggested using Grab for food delivery to the lobby. I don’t think guests paying for a promoted four-star stay should have to rely on outside delivery because the property isn’t properly equipped. Breakfast was very limited and not remotely international. There were no croissants or cappuccino, just carafes of filtered coffee, milk and hot water for tea. Bread came with one kind of jam, and the so-called orange juice was an overly sweet artificial drink, not fresh juice. The food was mostly rice and soup, with few alternatives. There were no allergen notices, ingredient labels or clear details about what the food contained, so anyone with intolerances or dietary restrictions should avoid staying here. It was also difficult to communicate because staff rarely spoke English well enough, even for simple things. For a place claiming four stars, that lack of clarity about food and the service I received were unacceptable.

A good option if you want to stay comfortable without spending much. The price was reasonable, and I found it easy to get around from the convenient location. My room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and it had the basic amenities I needed. Staff were polite and helpful during my stay.

The beds were comfortable and the room worked for two people, though the desk was tiny. The hallway got very loud in the evening, and there’s no air conditioning out there. Breakfast didn’t offer many choices either. Getting around was manageable, with the ARL station about a 12-15 minute walk away, but there aren’t many places to eat or things to do nearby. Be prepared to use Grab or take the train, which gets packed in the evenings. There’s only one elevator for the hotel’s six floors, which isn’t enough. We arrived at 1 pm, earlier than we expected, and had to wait 45 minutes to check in. I don’t think we’ll stay again.

Affordable, and the location and food options are friendly for Muslim visitors. The amenities are limited, though, and the water pressure was average. Breakfast wasn’t especially good, but the taste wasn’t bad either. It was okay overall.
