At Smile Oasis Houses

The rooms were adequate, but the arrival was a mess. We were handed a key to a room that hadn’t been cleaned, then offered the only other one, which had twin beds instead of a double. The following day my husband tried to get the key to our proper, now-clean room, and the staff were very unhelpful despite the original mix-up. There were rats running around downstairs, too.

I paid to store a pair of new shoes worth 300 euros. When the pandemic started, we were stuck in another country, so I contacted the hotel and was told they would mail the shoes to us. They never did. We were later told an employee had quit and stolen the shoes that were still in storage. I wouldn’t recommend leaving belongings here for safekeeping.

The location is excellent, the rooms are quiet, and they’ll store luggage after checkout for a fee. The basic standard double was what I expected for the price, but it felt stuffy. The air conditioning didn’t cool the room, and it wasn’t clean when we arrived, with used tissues under the bed. Breakfast was continental: two sausages, orange juice, two fried eggs, toast, jam, and a slice of cooked meat. Staff, especially the gentleman, made little effort to understand English and seemed to ignore questions about payments and services. We, like people in other reviews, were often asked to pay cash for the stay even though the POS terminal was there and working. There are plenty of guest houses on the same street and nearby with competitive prices and similar services. If I returned to Bangkok, I’d try another one. I wouldn’t recommend At Smile Oasis houses to friends or acquaintances.

It was quiet at night despite being very close to Khao San Road. The room was small but clean, and the owner was friendly. Breakfast was delicious. Fine for a couple of nights, though nothing really stood out to me.
