Baan Chanasongkram - Hostel

I really loved how hospitable the owner was. My private room had AC, a desk and chairs, and a kettle. There are two shared areas, one by reception and another upstairs. I liked the upstairs one best, with all its plants; it felt like a tiny jungle in Bangkok. Free drinking water is available too.

The location is great, and the laundry service is both good and cheap. The staff are friendly too. The rooms are tiny, with nowhere to put your things and no hooks, and we found hair on the floor. The bathrooms aren’t great, pretty gross really, though I’ve had worse. The shared areas feel odd, either more like luggage storage or just next to the bathroom. You get what you pay for.

The location is great, but the shared bathroom was very dirty and smelled bad, and the amenities weren’t clean. We booked a tour with a pickup van through the owner. I’d book it somewhere else, since for that price you can get your own private taxi. We were packed into a van with nine other passengers, and the back seats weren’t proper seats. It felt like being crammed in like animals, with no view from inside. The 5-6 hour trip to Koh Chang was torturous and felt unsafe.
