Bodega Party City Center Bangkok - Hostel

A party-house kind of hostel, good for a budget stay and meeting people in Sukhumvit 23. I had a great time making friends there, and the big rooms with 10-12 beds were clean and comfy. The only problem for me was the windows had no covers, so morning light could disturb my sleep. Otherwise everything was cool, especially the nearby amenities. 💯

This was the worst hostel I’ve stayed in, and it felt like a real scam. I paid for two nights but couldn’t stay properly and had to find somewhere to sleep myself, which was ridiculous. On my first night I arrived around 2am to check in. I’d already told the hostel I’d be late, but reception was closed and nobody answered after I called more than three times. Luckily, another guest let me sleep in his room until morning. When I finally checked in, the key they gave me didn’t work, so I had to come back down to replace it. It was just a plastic key holder, clearly not a fob. The second night I returned at about 2:28am and couldn’t get through gate number 3. Nobody had given me the keypad code or a fob. I was left thinking I might have to call the police to reach the owner or sleep on the street. I called the hostel again, but no one answered. The receptionist told me I could request a refund through Agoda, and they’d process it once I checked out. But after four days of trying, Agoda couldn’t reach the hostel, so I never got the refund. The crew should be careful with this place.

It’s really cheap, very clean, and the staff are nice. The location in Sukumwit is great, in one of Bangkok’s best and most international areas. I ended up here by mistake the first time, but after coming back from Cambodia I chose to stay again because I liked the place.

The dorms were big and clean, and the property, location, and price were fine, so I actually booked extra nights. There was a toilet light that hadn’t worked since my first stay a week earlier, though, and rats and cockroaches were outside the front entrance and sitting area. Other reviewers had mentioned them too. My problem is how the property handled a booking issue. I booked through Agoda, but no confirmation arrived in the app or by email. At check-in, staff said they had no booking for me, so I booked again through another app and paid cash because I didn’t know what had happened. The discounted price was only available online. The next day, Agoda sent the first confirmation, hours after I’d booked. I called right away, and Agoda said a system upgrade the night before may have caused glitches. They said they’d send the property a request to cancel without a fee, and asked me to follow up too. The property said they’d watch for it and there’d be “no problem.” A few days later, Agoda said the property wanted proof I’d been charged for the first booking. I sent a credit card statement, then heard nothing for a few days. At checkout, I reminded the staff about the no-fee cancellation request and was again told it wouldn’t be a problem. After I’d checked out and left the city, Agoda emailed to say the property now wanted proof of my cash payment. By then, I couldn’t get that document, and I ended up paying twice what I should have for the original booking. The amount itself was negligible. It’s the shady way they did business that earned this low rating. If they weren’t going to refund me, why not just say so honestly from the start?
