Canale Hostel

The rooms are tiny, though they have a cozy feel, and the place was neat and tidy. The decor is nice, and the staff, though few, were polite. Khaosan Road and the MRT Blue Line are both about 15-20 minutes away on foot. There are a couple of restaurants right beside the hotel for meals and drinks. The canal is next door, but it isn’t clean, so there isn’t much to say about it beyond seeing an Asian monitor Lizard swim there 😃. Breakfast was included, but it’s the same basic spread each day: corn flakes, milk, bread with toasters, butter, jam, raisins, fruit juice, and a machine for tea and coffee. It’s fine for budget travelers and families, but this isn’t the place for anyone expecting a 3 star+ experience. I had a nice time and would like to stay again on my next visit.

We spent six nights here in a family room, with bunk beds for our daughter and granddaughter and a queen bed for my wife and me. The bathroom and shower were small, but there was hot water. Breakfast was free, with toast, cornflakes, several coffee options, tea, and orange juice. There’s plenty of food nearby, and 7 11 is within walking distance. The neighborhood seemed like an older part of Bangkok, and we did a lot of exploring around it. There are lots of little hotels and hostels in the area. We barely interacted with the staff, who seemed not to like being bothered. We asked to have the towels changed once. For the price, it was fair, and I’d stay again.

Waking up to a view of the canal was one of the best parts of my stay. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and spotless, and the hosts were friendly and attentive, making sure guests felt at home. It’s very good value, and the hotel gave me a real Bangkok experience.

The rooms are small, and cleanliness could use some work. Breakfast was decent, though. It’s a decent place to stay, within walking distance of Khao San road and about 1.5 km from Grand Palace, Wat Arun, and Wat Pho.
