EXORESIDENCE - Heart of Chinatown

The 7-11 and Starbucks downstairs were really convenient, and the location worked well for getting to tourist spots. Yaowarat traffic gets very bad during peak hours, though. We had to wait a bit for the only operating lift, especially with several bags. We enjoyed our stay. We checked in late, but the staff were already expecting us. Our booked room wasn't ready, so we moved into another one that suited our group. After we returned from Khao Yai the next evening, the staff were very accommodating when we shifted rooms. I'd recommend staying here.

The room itself was fine and the location was good, but it smelled like sewage. Reception was absolutely horrible and no help at all. They gave us a free coupon for a foot massage, then refused to book it for us. When our car was late to the airport on departure day, we asked them to call the car company and they refused, saying they couldn't do anything, then laughed in our faces. If you're looking for somewhere cheap, go for it, but the building smells and the reception staff are genuinely very mean. I'll answer any questions people have.

The room was spacious and quiet, with a view over a temple, and the staff were nice. Getting an Uber or Grab from here was no problem. One odd thing: the shower instructions are missing. Apparently you have to press a button five times for hot water, so my first shower was cold.

For everyday things, this location has nearly everything right downstairs. There's a Starbucks, a 7-Eleven, and an ATM at the entrance, plus a SuperRich exchange office just beside the entrance. It has one of the area's best rates, so tourists and expats use it a lot and the queue can get long. An elderly lady next to the hotel sells pad thai for 60 baht at night, quick, cheap, and tasty. It's right in the heart of Chinatown, about a 3-minute walk from the MRT, and taxis, Grab, and Bolt are easy to get. The only confusing bit at first was that the lobby is on the 3rd floor, through the door next to Starbucks. The room was a decent size, neither cramped nor luxurious, and it was clean when we arrived. Towels and rubbish were collected daily after 2:00 PM. The bed and pillows are on the firm side, but not uncomfortable, and I got used to them after a couple of nights. The air conditioning worked very well, and there were no problems with the power outlets or electricity. The bathroom was clean, though a little old and acceptable by Bangkok standards. The sink and faucet are only about 4 cm apart, which makes handwashing awkward. It's a small design detail, but noticeable every day and it feels like a cost-cutting choice. The main problems were internet and noise. Wi-Fi was available, but so slow and unstable that it was almost unusable, and often wouldn't connect when many guests were online. I had to use my own mobile data for the whole stay, which is a serious issue if you need internet in your room or work remotely. The elevator bell could clearly be heard whenever it stopped on a floor, even late at night, so light sleepers may find it disturbing. I felt completely safe there, day and night. For the price, I'd stay again since there aren't many alternatives at the same level in this location. It's a good fit if location matters most and you spend most of the day out, using the room mainly to sleep and shower. I'd say it's ideal for a short stay of 3-7 days. Longer than a week could get tiring because of the Wi-Fi and noise, though families could stay too if they're aware of those downsides.
