We stayed in May 2017, and I think we were the only guests there for those three nights. From our River Room's little private balcony, it was fascinating to watch boats moving along the tidal river all day. At times the water rose close to the deck, and the brightly lit tour boats passed at night. The hotel is tucked away near a large outdoor market with virtually no tourists, and it's handy to the public ferry. For ten cents US, you can cross the river and walk to the grand palace. There are tuk tuks, taxis and inexpensive local restaurants over there, with decent restaurants close to the hotel as well.

Friendly, helpful staff brought breakfast to our riverside bedroom terrace every morning, which was the best part for us. We also loved wandering the local street maze and its small businesses. Across the way is the Patravadi theatre school, with its cafe and restaurant, and we were lucky to find Supatra River House restaurant on our first night. The river views are lovely, and the decor is adequate. Though it's sometimes called a boutique hotel or a resort, it's really a small bed-and-breakfast in a Bangkok neighborhood with few tourists. It's across the river from the Golden Palace, just a short ferry ride to a more tranquil world.

I really liked being outside the busy backpacker and big hotel areas. The river view was lovely, even if the room wasn't perfect, and service was great.
